Hey Spence. One more time, I've gotta tell you that you've got a great thing
going on with this TIU/LID CD series. And, I did what you guys wanted all
along: After getting hooked on Denny's Mix, I checked out Denny's site and
bought his Moving Pictures CD. It was helpful to hear what Chester did with
Miles to Monaco as I've been learning the CD.

I ended up recording 3 selections off Denny's Mix, 2 off Messin' Wid Da Bull
and one off Rock It Science yesterday. Thanks for all your help.

'As a prog rock and odd meter drumming player & fan, this is EASILY the best and most convenient learning tool available. If you're serious about wanting to learn odd-time signatures and grooves, then "Playin' The Odd's " is a must. Spence, thanks for putting out another great volume!"

butch_and_eddie.jpgHello Spence,

Ed Shaughnessey turned me on to your fabulous creation and I immediately got on line and bought Volume I.

I'm leaving the Basie Band (again) and concentrating on my teaching load at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas and this is EXACTLY what I've been looking for to get my students locked into a groove when they're unable to play with their ensembles or combos on campus.

This Is Great!! Thanks to Ed for introducing it to me and thanks to you for creating it. Add me to your list. Wonderful!!!

 Hi Spencer,

I'm enjoying the Turn It Up voulmes I have. I'm working through the 4th Baby Steps-Giant Steps.

I play this type music lot, so this is helpful! During the drum 4's sections it's a challenge to come in and out perfect every time...and the feel is great on the recording.

 Keep up the good work.

Spence,

Man, you really nailed it with these CD's! These things are damn fun!

The CD's you mailed arrived last week and I finally had a chance to try them out last night. What a friggin blast!

Picked at random, I started went with Vol.3 - "Rock it Science". I just treated it like a jam night and played from

the seat of my pants without 'learning' the songs first and had a blast! The audience cheering and

other effects had me smiling and the music was fun to play along to.  I have been playing for 26 years (mostly as a working pro)

and found these discs totally relevant. These will definitely be in my practice routine for sure.

Not sure what else to say - Bravo!

I am really looking forward to getting into the artist series; as well. Those sound great!

Thanks a bunch!
ANDY

Hey Spence

I loved the Double Pedal Metal, which I am still working on. Just a top notch product in my eyes. Every drummer should have these CD's in his collection. If I had of found this earlier I would have saved myself so much money (LOL) . I have already ordered the Messn Wid da Bull...the "BOOK".  I see Johnny Rab is putting together something together for you. I Can't wait! Awesome!

Thanks Man
Todd

Hi Spence!! I am teaching 30 students at Dynamite music in Griffith, Indiana and at Music Lab in Lansing, Illinois.I've been teaching around four years now and really enjoy it! I also play with several bands.I have purchase a couple of your cds at Guitar Center and think they are great!! Besides having seen them advertised in MD and some of the other drum mags, I saw Ed Shaunessy do a clinic in Chicago two years and he recomended them to the audience.I plan on introducing my students to TURN IT UP & LAY IT DOWN as soon as my entire collection arrives.

Please send any info, flyers and posters as soon as possible. Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!!!! KID JACKSON

Spence,
The two new CD's are the best playback productions I've heard so far!
Great songs, beautiful mastered. All I can say is wow! It's really a pleasure to play to these tracks.
I'll take them to my drumschool next week to play two songs from these recordings.
Thanks a lot and all the best,

Spence,
I got the original cd about 7 years ago.  I have really enjoyed it but I hadn't used it in a while. I pulled it out again the other day and was inspired again and found myself playing completely differently than I had before. This showed me that the material holds up really well as skills advance.
So, I am now contemplating how quickly to get the rest of the collection. I initially didn't think I would be all that interested in the cd's that focused on jazz or metal but I believe now that I can only advance by working with those different styles.

Great product!  And a pleasant suprise to hear from someone at the company.

I will continue to support your products. They are among the best out there.

You should feel proud about all the lives you touch through these tools.

I’ll keep watching the site for the release of the companion books.

Spencer, I just got Vol. 1 in the mail now and I think it's great. It's just what the doctor ordered for my students and for me too. Leaving the drums off and having all those different grooves in a play along CD is a product that has been needed for a long time. Thanks for doing such a great job on it. Rob Gibson

Yo man,
Just wanted to give ya a big 'ol "Thanks" for the Cd's.
Man, you really did some cool "vibe" stuff on vol. 3-6, like the 'verbed-out vocal count in on the Metal stuff, and the "cool" count-ins on the Bop... Dude, if I were 16 and still in my parent's basement in N.C., I would LOVE that shit :) I really like that you remember what it's like to be in that learning, shedding mindset.
Cheers man, please stay in touch!!

 Spence,
Awesome CD's man. As an instructor, I'm always looking for ways to improve my teaching. I believe students should be able to (1) play the rudiments, (2) read & play drum grooves, and (3) play in different musical styles. I also believe they should learn how to compose drum parts on-the-spot when hearing a given piece of music. That's always been very difficult to teach because drumless music tracks are almost nonexistent. Your Turn It Up & Lay It Down series solves that problem perfectly. I'll be using your material often ... and recommending it to all of my students & drum buddies. Keep up the good work!

Hey Spence!

Let me just say that the Turn It Up & Lay It Down series are brilliant!

#6 is hot and #4 provides a great Jazz workout!

I’ll be working through these for many months. I bought the whole series from itunes about a month ago, based on a review in Modern Drummer.

The article in MD mentioned that there were pdf charts that could be downloaded from the website. I scoured the site looking for them but wasn’t able to find them. Can you point me in the right direction to get these, if they exist?

Thanks again for a great product, and you can be sure I’ll be getting any new disks you make. I’m especially thirsty for more stand up bass loops like Jumpswing, Joekiller, and Bossa off Volume 1.

Thanks!
John Curry

darren_heath.jpgHello,

My name is Darren Heath and I would like to thank you for creating the Turn it Up & Lay it Down CDs. I am a freshman at Monroney Jr High and I play total percussion in concert band and drum kit in Jazz band there. I also do independent work

with local choirs, am in a drum ensemble, and play in a praise band. If not for your CDs, I would not be where I am today.

I now own 5 (all but the metal volume...not my thing) and play with them daily. My normal daily rehearsal is around 10 mins. warmup, 15 mins. of playing with other recordings to prepare for performances, and 45 mins. playing with TU&LD.

The bass player in my band is a studio bassist and after our first time to play together he said

"It is so easy to play with a drummer who plays mostly with the bass, but is still connceted to the rest of the band. I think most of this is due to my practice with your CDs. I one more story, this past week at the Southwestern Oklahoma State University 37th annual "Jazzfest" Jazz band competition and clinic I recieved a great honor. On the day of the competition,

I recieved a citation for "Outstanding Musicianship", one of three awarded to my band. Later, I recieved news that I had been named one of the top two soloists of any Junior High or Middle School band that competed.

Along with a plaque I received a $200 scholarship to the SWOSU summer band camp. I was ecstatic when I recieved the news and I knew that the thing that helped me most was TU&LD vol. 4. That CD was the best investment I've made for my drumming career.

Thanks again,
Darren Heath

Hey Spence,
Thanks for the CDs. They're great! I am practicing with all six CDs, now. They're really fun! They're a good work out for me, too! Thank you for being so welcoming to me from the first night, as well. Actually, every time you saw me. You treated me like an adult, and I appreciate that. You're fun to be around and I wish we could have talked more than we did. But I still think we got to know who each other was, at least and that's good. Now I will be able to pick your face out of a crowd. Are you going to be at next year's PAS show? If so, I look forward to seeing you there. You will be able to meet my twin brothers, the guitarists that I told you about.

Thanks again.
Later,
Branson

Spence, You're the man!!!!!!! Your cd's are killer... I have a clinic scheduled for next week (five to be more exact) and I'll be using them as my samples. Let's do the Latin thing soon, dude. Just let me know what you need from me. Thanks for your friendship.
Sincerely,
Henry Brun

Thanks so much for what you are doing Spence. For many years now I have been playing Roland V-Drums through headphones over my favorite Cd's. I play only as a hobby, but as soon as I started playing along to Vol1 and didn't have some of the best drummers on the planet covering me, I immediately noticed how sloppy I was. In the few weeks I have had Vol1 I have noticed a distinct difference in my playing, much tighter, better overall time-keeping. I just received Vol6. I see how your work has come along from Vol 1-6. You are doing great work Bro. I am enjoying them very much. Keep putting them out and I will keep buying them.
Thanks Again,
Matt Fortino
